Product Description

Renee Zellweger is Roxie Hart, a murderess who becomes front page news in 1920s Jazz Age Chicago. After shooting her no good lover full of lead, it's off to death row with her, where she encounters the queen bee warden (Queen Latifah) and star in-mate Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Managing to secure the services of suave lawyer Billy Flynnn (Richard Gere) and with the help of some media manipulation, Roxie hopes to escape her murder rap and kick start a career on the stage. But what happens after her fifteen minutes of infamy have passed her by? Chicago is an honourable, wholly enjoyable attempt at an old-style Hollywood musical.

Worth watching but not compulsory viewing

In 1920s Chicago, Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger) wants to be a star like the charismatic vaudeville entertainer Velma Kelley (Catherine Zeta Jones). When both women find themselves in prison charged with murder, they compete for the attention of prison warden Matron "Mama" Morton (Queen Latifah) and lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) to win fame and fortune as the most notorious celebrity in town.

Often musicals made into movies don’t make for particularly engaging viewing, Evita being a prime example. Although entertaining for the most part, Rob Marshall’s Chicago, adapted from Bob Fosse's stage musical, is not as absorbing as you would expect from a Best Picture Oscar recipient.

The plot is straightforward, since the songs are the focus of the 108 minutes running time, but the story does take the time to make some interesting points about the nature of fame. Of the three leads, Zeta Jones is surprisingly (for anyone who has endured the abysmal Entrapment) the most impressive, with her voice by far strongest. Zellweger plays whiny Roxie with precision, but her singing is passable rather than professional. Gere’s trademark twinkling eyes are perfect for the role of a manipulative lawyer, but again his vocal talents are adequate more than exceptional. Of the other performers, Latifah stands out - with an amusing rendition of “When You're Good To Mama” a highlight.

In summary, Chicago is worth watching without being compulsory viewing.

Chica - Go Away!

Y'know, people only started ranting and raving about this musical because they can't remember the last time they saw one. Compared with the older musicals like "My fair Lady" and the more modern ones like - ( umm...I can't remember any ). Well, you get the point anyway, not to mentions that none of the leads can sing or dance anyway. Which just goes to show how rigged the Oscars are....

Simply fabulous

A very unique film as it manage to combine both a drama and musical together. It is this uniqueness that set this movie apart as compared to otherwise a typical drama you see in other films
Besides that, the cast was amazing, with Renee, Catherine, and Gere. Even the music that accompanied the movie was simply breathtaking, very creative and even sexy!!..
Truly a remarkable movie, perfect in almost every aspect, it is no surprised that they have won 6 academy awards, I would be extremely shocked if they hadnt. All in all, a wonderful film, very entertaining, a must watch for everyone who has good taste in flims.

A toe tapping event a.k.a Chicago!!!

He had it coming, he had it coming, if you had been there,
if you had seen ....
Sorry!!! that is just one of the many great tunes from a movie that will make it to the top of your favourites list.
Based on the hit boardway musical, chicago is a fantastic movie all about making the story your own or bending the truth.
Velma Kelly (katherine zeta-jones) is a star performer with her sister, and an idol to Roxie hart (Renee Zellewiger). roxie is cheating on her thick hubby. But roxie becomes a murderer when she gets angry with her boy friend because he doesn't have the connections he promised. She is sent to a womans prison where she meets Velma and becomes the it girl of chicago. But as her trial grow nearer, she inlists the help of silver tonged lawer Billy Flynn (Richard Gear) to get her out of the sticky situation.
Together they bend the story drimatically and mean while Velma begins to fade into the backround ......
A must see movie with a twist, and I must say it is amazing the lenges that Roxie will go to to be the word on everyones lips.
A warning though, you will have the tunes stuck in your head for ages, good for some, bad for others.
