Great Hunt and Hide Thriller !

This is not the typical USA Vs Russia spy movie, it is a thriller with twists and turns. Sean Connery is at his best playing a Soviet Sub-Commander with intentions clearly masked until the end.

Alec Baldwin is the USA super-sleuth who is an expert on Soviet Naval Commanders and, contrary to all other USA 'experts', convinces the Commander-In-Chief to give him time to prove that the Soviet Commander is not out to destroy the USA with a new proto-type nuclear submarine. In fact, Baldwin is convinced that the Soviet is about to defect and bring the sub with him.

So begins the cat-and-mouse hunt and hide with the Soviet and USA armed forces each competing to find the rogue commander before the other.

What follows is a superb blend of suspense, intrigue and surprise.

I particularly like the role Connery plays in this thriller; he is convincing and takes the viewer on a believable journey through what it must've been like at the height of the Cold-War when tensions were high.

Whilst Baldwin is less convincing as the unlikely 'good-guy' he nevertheless plays a reasonable support role.

Overall i rate this movie quite highly because of its ability to hold the viewer in a state of suspense for most of its duration. Whilst certainly not the best of its type, good casting helped liven a storyline that has been overworked for the past twenty or so years.
