We're All In Bad Company Now

Being the first game in the Battlefield series with a dedicated storyline campaign, I was very eager to jump in and experience the storyline campaign for myself.

The story starts off with you, the main character, playing as a misbehaved soldier named Preston Marlow whom gets transferred to another company in the regiment, known as Bad Company. Preston then gets folded into a squad of misfit and renegade soldiers where together, they go AWOL in a quest for gold and riches.

DICE's ability to incorporate destructible environments in the game is certainly innovative when compared to other first person shooters in the market today. In Battlefield: Bad Company, it is very difficult to find cover as nearly 90% of the environment around you can be blown to pieces. The fact that this game incorporates destructible environments just goes to show that the technology of first person shooters is evolving. Battlefield: Bad Company's signature feature of destructible environments truly is the highlight of the game as it changes the way a gamer can approach a certain battle scenario.

The graphics in Battlefield: Bad Company were well developed with very little to no frame rate issues at all. The grass, water and guns look absolutely beautiful. Vehicles in which you drive in have a wonderfully detailed dashboard, with dirt flying everywhere as you hasten in your truck to the top of a mountain.

The sound effects in this game on the other hand are also one of the other highlights of the game. The squeezing and firing of limitless rounds whizzing past your head is something a gamer must marvel at, let alone the sounds of a building being blown to pieces using a grenade launcher. The voice acting in the game was also top notch; however I felt that some of the character's lines in the game were a bit too inappropriate and inconsistent given the situation. You simply do not joke around, when you are heavily suppressed by a machine gun.

The gameplay itself was something that really kept me occupied, given the many ways I could approach a situation. I was always tangled by if I should take the tank or if I should take the boat. The ability to explore a certain area and find collectibles and gold bars certainly add and equate to this game having a high replay value. Once you have completed the storyline campaign, you still have the fun online multiplayer to jump into. As I have said above, DICE have done an excellent job with the physics engine by incoporating the destructible environments and I personally believe that this is the most important and exciting part of the game.

The overall presentation of this game was excellent. The menu was very different to a lot of the recent games with the addition of animated backgrounds.

To finish off, Battlefield: Bad Company is an excellent game and certainly one that no first person shooter avid won't want to miss!
