Product Description

Coldplay's debut album 'Parachutes' (2000) was a collection of direct, soulful, utterly beautiful songs stripped right back to expose the raw emotion underneath. Showing that you don't always have to shout to be heard, it has sold five million copies worldwide, winning a clutch of NME and Q awards, two Brits in 2001 and the Grammy award for 'best alternative album' in 2002.

The band were under no illusions that their follow-up had to rate highly. With 'A Rush Of Blood To TheHead' the band have certainly blown that 'difficult second album' scenario out of the water.

"We made this album feeling like every day could be the last and we just wanted to get everything out, do everything to the maximum. We might as well make the the most of things and live everything with conviction" - Chris Martin

Produced by the band and Ken Nelson (the same team responsible for 'Parachutes') and recorded at Parr St. Studios, Liverpool and Air Studios, London, 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' features 11 new songs. Although still recognisably Coldplay, it's more energetic and uptempo than their debut. Fuelled by a new confidence and instilled with a sense of urgency, Coldplay have delivered an album that surpasses even their own incredibly high standards. With 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', they have created a masterpiece, this year's defining record.

'Of course, 'Yellow' was a fantastic song. But frankly there was nothing on Coldplay's debut that even hinted they would follow it up with an album as accomplished, original and majestic as this' - Uncut (UK)

'...positively orgasm-inducing...album of the millennium so far, no problem' - Marie Claire (UK)

'...a collection of vastly moving songs that will render stadiums as intimate as bedrooms. U2, Radiohead...Coldplay? It would seem so' - Q (UK)

Amazingly Meaningful and Wonderfully Touching

A Rush of Blood to the Head (AROBTTH) consolidates Coldplay's reputation as a world-status rock band that approaches the issues of life with an insightful eye. It's mix of upbeat (Clocks) and deeply melancholy (The Scientist) songs make it an album suited for all music lovers. But I must comment more on The Scientist which in my opinion is the best song EVER. Now I have always avoided choosing a favourite song because I know that we all get bored of many songs after a while but The Scientist is an exception. For all those who are unsure about purchasing the album I highly recommend listening to The Scientist and once heard, you will be hooked. Other tracks to look out for include Amsterdam and also A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Enjoy!!

Must Have!!

It's absolutely the best cd to come out this year. I was a big fan of their first cd, not so much of the second, but this is the finest cd Coldplay has made yet. I loved all their songs. I have already bought two copies; one for myself, the other for my mother. It's a cd for all ages.

Coldplay - Rush Of Blood To The Head

I became intrigued with Coldplay after reading many reviews and articles hailing them as the best British Band and the greatest band in the world. However, I couldn't remember hearing any of their songs so I didn't have an idea of what their sounds was like. I'm kinda particular about my rock--I am an r&b/hip hop fan at heart, but appreciate slower, pensive rock with acoustic guitars and soft piano melodies. I saw Coldplay's performance at the Grammy's and my curiousity was piqued even more and I considered buying their cd then, but it was another performance by John Mayer that sent me speeding to Tower Records the next day.

Finally, about 2 weeks ago, I sat through the whole video of Clocks on VHI and realized that I needed to stop procrastinating and buy this cd. Of course I had heard Clocks before and loved the melody, I just wasn't compelled to own it until then. Buying the cd last week has truly been the best investment I have made this summer, on anything. I know that I will listen to this cd FOREVER. It took me about 3 days of listening to it before I was able to identify its individual song melodies, instrumentation, and little nuances that make you fall in love with a particular song. My favorite track has to be Politik, especially the final 2/3 when it gets softer and Chris pleads, "Give me love over, love over this" I also love "The Scientist", all praises heaped upon that song are justified, as are Warning Sign, and the title track. In My Place and of course, Clocks round out my favorites. That's 7 out of 11, well worth the [money] I paid for it, but the investment of being able to be transported into the mood that these songs evoke, every time I listen to them is priceless. I know that listening to it as the months progress will remind me of this lazy but troubled summer I've had, and how I was able to cope with the music of Coldplay. Excellent music from excellent musicians. I am a fan for life now.

The best in my collection!

This is the best album I have heard in a long time, Coldplay is sure to take over the world of rock music. This album is great to sing along to with each song offering something unique. My favourite would have to be God put a smile on your face which always puts me in a good mood. With a unique sound Coldplay is sure to take over from Oasis as the best rock band in the world. Don't miss out, buy the album you will be doing yourself a huge favour that you won't regret.

FIGJAM

After touring in support of their debut album, Parachutes, Coldplay was personally and professionally exhausted. Frontman Chris Martin insisted he was dry; by the time they closed their European tour in summer 2001, he hadn't written a song in months. The U.K. music press immediately pounced on the idea of Coldplay calling it quits, but somewhere lurked the beauty of "In My Place." The spirit and soul of this ballad allowed Coldplay to pull it together to make a second album. What came from such anguish and inquisition was A Rush of Blood to the Head. Coldplay has surely let it all go on this record. Acoustics are drowned out by Jon Buckland's riveting guitar work, and vocally, Martin has sharpened his falsetto, refining his haunting delivery. It's a strong album; you can feel, hear, and touch the blood, sweat, and tears behind each song, and that's exactly what Coldplay was going for. Co-producer Ken Nelson and mixer Mark Pythain (the team behind the blissful beauty of Parachutes) allowed Coldplay to make an album that's initially inaccessible, but that's what makes it intriguing. Lush melodies and a heartbreak behind the songs are there, but also a newfound confidence. From the delicate, shimmery classic "In My Place" to the piano surge of "The Scientist," Coldplay exudes an honest passion. The disco haze of "Daylight" and the lovedrunk ballad "Green Eyes" are divine examples of solid lyrical arrangements, but "Politik" and the stunning guitar-driven "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" project a nervy edge to the band. Echoes of early post-punk showcase Coldplay's ballsy musicianship. Don't fret — it's not exactly rock & roll, but Radiohead, Echo & the Bunnymen, and The Smiths weren't exactly rock & roll either, and they were well-loved. "Yellow" didn't follow the rock formula, but it sold well, and similarly A Rush of Blood to the Head might not instantly grab listeners, but it's not tailored that way. It pushes you to look beyond dreamy vocals for a musical inner core. Regardless of the band still being in their mid-twenties, they've made an amazing record, and if it ends up being their last, A Rush of Blood to the Head didn't sugar coat anything. It's a bittersweet design no matter what.
